ERYNN FERNANDEZ

Aloha nui State Convention Delegates,

Congratulations on becoming a delegate to the 2024 DPH State Convention, and mahalo to all the Democrats whose support got me this far.

My name is Erynn Fernandez, and like many of you I come from a working-class family. My mom was an ILWU member and representative who worked hard to provide for our family but was fortunate to belong to a union that fought for better wages and working conditions. I saw firsthand the need for unions like my mom’s which helped improve the quality of life for us growing up. And it’s those memories and experiences that led me to fight for families like mine and to become the Democrat I am today.

It is why I care so deeply about this party. It's the party of fighting for the opportunity to work for a better life, it’s the party of equality and justice, but most importantly it’s the party of people like us wanting a world that our children and their children can be proud of. That's why I've been here for the last 8 years, alongside many of you, doing the often-invisible but important work needed to keep our party afloat, building, and moving forward to ensure our values and principles are not forgotten.

If I am elected as your chair, you'll have someone who has helped guide the party through rough times and important achievements, like our first all-mail party-run presidential primary.

As an elected member of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) Executive Committee, I've already built important relationships at the national level and with other state parties. These partnerships are one of the ways I've been able to help raise money for the party; and engaging in various methods of fundraising is vital to party financial solvency.

As you know, we are facing one of the most important presidential elections of our lifetime. And shortly after that, the agreements which bring all state parties a steady source of funding will have to be renegotiated. The next chair will need the experience to help secure these wins for us.

We sometimes forget the Democratic Party of HawaiÊ»i is a powerful coalition. Because we are so diverse and inclusive, sometimes there is agreement and other times, well, not so much. And yet even in disagreement, our goals and core principles are the same. I have worked with most of you and have come to know your passions and motivations; and that is why I am best equipped to help lead us through all that may be up ahead.

Together we will support our communities, be good stewards of our land, take back the west side of OÊ»ahu, and keep Trump out of the White House.

I humbly ask for your vote for party chair.

Mahalo,

Erynn
