DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF HAWAIʻI
2022 STATE CONVENTION
MAY 27 - MAY 29, 2022
We are the Party of social justice. We are the Party of economic justice. We are the Party of the people. We are the Party with a proud heritage of bringing into law the minimum wage, social security, and health insurance. We uphold the rights of the poor, the middle class, small businesses, and organized labor. I believe in this Party because I knew what it was like to grow up wanting.
I was the first in my family to graduate from high school. I attended Pitzer College in Claremont, California. I returned to work at the legislature for State Senator Anson Chong. I went on to earn a Master of Arts in political science, a Master of Business Administration, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I worked as a Deputy Public Defender for the State of Hawaii. I practiced criminal law, immigration law and personal injury litigation.
I believe in the future of this Party because we are here in anticipation of our future. As your State Party Chair, I’ll lead by listening and guiding us to all work together to advance initiatives to create well-paying jobs, affordable housing for working people, protect children, uplift families, and ensure a sustainable way of life with renewable energy, a safe environment and outstanding public education.
We strive for abundance. We celebrate financial security. We recognize a need to prepare a path for our keiki to grow and prosper. We cherish and guard the rights of working people to organize. We honor the rights and traditions of native Hawaiians and indigenous peoples. We protect the ʻaina. We practice the spirit of aloha. We plant trees. We defend gender choices, and we respect the rights of minorities. We vigorously oppose discrimination, and we will absolutely fight for Roe vs. Wade as the law of the land.
We can promote equity for all people. I believe that we will make tomorrow happy and prosperous—if we listen to each other, respect each other and if we work together. Together we can build a better Hawaiʻi.
I ask for you vote. Please elect me, Dennis W. Jung, as your next State Party Chair.
